Port-au-Prince, 15 Octobre 2016 - La Représentante Spéciale du Secrétaire général des Nations Unies et les autres membres du « Core Group » (les Ambassadeurs du Brésil, du Canada, de France, d’Espagne, des États-Unis d’Amérique, de l’Union européenne et le Représentant Spécial de l’Organisation des Etats américains), saluent l’annonce du Conseil électoral provisoire (CEP) de nouvelles échéances électorales, après le report de l’élection du 9 octobre suite aux ravages causés par l’ouragan Matthew. 

Réaffirmant leur solidarité avec le peuple Haïtien en ces temps difficiles, le « Core Group » prend note du nouveau calendrier électoral, qui prévoit la tenue du premier tour des élections le 20 novembre 2016 et le deuxième tour le 29 janvier 2017. Les membres du « Core Group » se réjouissent de la volonté démontrée par les acteurs politiques Haïtiens à conclure le cycle électoral et encouragent tous les acteurs à mettre en œuvre le nouveau calendrier, permettant ainsi le retour à l’ordre constitutionnel.

Plus que jamais, Haïti a besoin d’institutions qui sont stables et démocratiquement élues pour répondre aux nombreux défis politiques, humanitaires, économiques et sociaux que connaît le pays.

The Core Group encourages all actors to implement the new electoral calendar announced by the Provisional Electoral Council today

Port-au-Prince, 15 October 2016 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the other members of the “Core Group” (the Ambassadors of Brazil, Canada, France, Spain, the United States of America, the European Union and the Special Representative of the Organization of American States), welcome the announcement by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) of new election dates, following the postponement of the 9 October elections as a result of the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew.  

Reiterating their solidarity with the people of Haiti during these challenging times, the ”Core Group” takes note of the new electoral calendar, which foresees the holding of the first round of elections on 20 November 2016 and the second round on 29 January 2017. The members of the “Core Group” welcome the resolve demonstrated by the Haitian political actors to conclude the electoral cycle and encourage all actors to implement the new calendar, thereby enabling the return to full Constitutional order.

More than ever, Haiti needs institutions that are stable and democratically elected to respond to the many political, humanitarian, economic and social challenges facing the country.
