In November, MONUSCO stepped up its efforts to stabilize the situation and protect civilians in the DRC. In response to the tragic ADF attacks in Lubero (89 victims), the Mission strongly condemned these acts and reaffirmed its commitment to fighting impunity. At the same time, emphasis was placed on strengthening national capacities: more than 200 FARDC soldiers were trained in Ituri in humanitarian law, a pillar of civil confidence. The Mission also continued to pave the way for peace by facilitating the repatriation of former FDLR combatants and marked the departure of its head, Bintou Keita, on November 30, after her unwavering commitment.

Ituri is strengthening its defenses. In Walikale, North Kivu, the FARDC is stepping up awareness efforts to encourage FDLR combatants to lay down their arms and join the repatriation process to Rwanda, using mobile radio provided by MONUSCO's DDRS Section. Find out more here.
