Organization Setting and Reporting Line

Under the general direction of the Chief Transport Officer and the direct supervision of the OIC light workshop, the automotive spray painter shall be responsible for the technical and operational effectiveness of UN owned standard commercial pattern vehicles at the Transport base workshop in Port Au Prince. The incumbent shall perform the following functions:

Responsibilities:

Within delegated authority the automotive painter shall perform the following duties:

Ensure appropriate safety procedures and environmental friendly working habits are followed when preparing and painting vehicles, equipment and parts thereof;

Use and operate the full range of equipment to clean and prepare a vehicle in preparation for painting; Protect surfaces that are not to be painted or blasted with appropriate types of masking tapes and covers; Select, mix and apply various paints and preservatives; Coat surfaces with primer, paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other materials using brushes, rollers, spray cans and other devices;

Remove old paints using a liquid paint remover, scraper or sand media grinding techniques; Prepare surface with sandpaper and scraper; Roughens surfaces with solution and sand papers to ensure that paint adheres to surface and provides corrosion control methods to specifications; Masks and cover portions of surfaces not to be painted;

Paints insignia, letters or numerals on vehicle surface using stencils; Uses gloss and semi-gloss, enamels and lacquers; Paints and redecorates vehicles, equipment and fixtures; May mix colors and other paint ingredients to obtain proper color.

Work assignments involve standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching in strained and awkward positions for prolonged periods of time. Knowledgeable to wear and use appropriate personal protection from harmful dusts and fumes;

May perform and assist with other Transport workshop duties, as qualified.

Education: - High school diploma is required.  Appropriate technical and vocational qualifications in automotive body repair and painting is highly desirable.

Work Experience: - At least three years of progressively responsible experience in auto body panel repair and reconditioning is required. Knowledge of automotive technology is an advantage. Valid national driving license is required.  Good working knowledge in utilizing computer software applications (Outlook, MS Word, Excel, FMS in Galileo, etc.)

Languages: - English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.  For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written French is required. Good communication and working knowledge in English is an advantage.
