Organization Setting and Reporting Line

Under the general direction of the Chief Transport Officer, The Driver is responsible for performing a variety of transportation services to staff International, national, VNU, UNPOL, Military, visitors and VIPS.  The Driver required for safely operating UN vehicles on a regular daily schedule as well in order ensure that the UN vehicles are in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop UN Staff and/or Consultants  as per the schedule, maintain order and security on the UN vehicles and obey all laws, regulations and rules of conduct.

Within the terms of organization’s delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the supervisor in charge, the Driver will undertake the following tasks and responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • To follow the approved terms of the organization concerning accident and incident. and to perform related work;
  • Operate the UN Vehicles in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life, including;
  • Arrange for necessary repairs in order to restore service and schedules;
  • Operate the UN vehicles in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures;
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks;
  • Advise personnel about traffic problems such as construction areas, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, and other hazards.as checking oil, Fill up on fuel;
  • Record and maintain files and records of customer requests, work or services performed,
  • Ensure the bus or vehicles are safely and securely stored;
  • Advise the supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs;
  • Drive long distances;
  • Report to the dispatcher on any incidents encountered on the road;
  • Monitor road conditions and watch for traffic congestion;
  • Follow all applicable traffic laws;
  • Inspect the vehicles before and after the trip, record and report any defects they find;
  • Follow accident procedures if an accident occurs;
  • Keep a log of activities;
  • Report serious mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel;
  • Take special precautions while driving;
  • Pick up and drop UN personnel;
  • Take attendance on the UN vehicles;
  • Maintain order and discipline on the UN vehicles;
  • Make note of any behavioral or disciplinary problems. Execute work in coordination with other members of the team;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education: - High school diploma required.

Work Experience: - The Driver will need to have three (3) years of driving experience in light and heavy vehicles.  The Driver must have proficient knowledge in driving, the use of computer and understanding of the UN cultural environment.

Languages: - English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

For this position advertised, fluency in French and English is required.
