Organization Setting and Reporting Line: This position is located within the Fuel Unit. The Fuel Assistant reports directly to the Fuel Operations assistant.

Responsibilities: Within the limits of delegated authority, the staff is responsible to monitor all field fuel operations and the implementation of fuel plan. The duties of the staff include the following:

Record fuel operations, review fuel stock holdings and product requirements ensuring that each assigned location both civilian and Military maintains adequate reserve and operational stocks at all times.

Perform periodic spot inspections of Military Contingents in the regions to ensure all operations comply with UN standards and regulations.

Assist with implementing the Mission Fuel Plan

Monitor fuel usage by Vehicles, Aircraft, Generators, and Contingents and report any anomalies or inconsistent fuel consumption.

Initiate investigations into presumptive fuel fraud as and when appropriate.

Verify the issuance and ensure proper accounting of POL products at assigned locations.

Assist with screening requests and issuances.

Ensure proper record of daily testing of ground fuels in accordance with international standards.

Ensure proper record of quality control, safety and maintenance of fuel installations, vehicles and fuel equipment in assigned locations

Assist in ensuring that fuel operations are conducted according to recognized international environmental and safety standards in a professional and competent manner;

Perform other related duties in liaison with the FOO and the Chief, Fuel Unit.

Effectively oversee Fuel Operations for the Mission. Establish effective collaboration and partnerships with operational staff from other sections as well as Military Contingents oversight.

Education: - High school diploma is required. Certification or other supplemental academic qualifications or training is highly desirable.

Work Experience: - At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) the operation of field fuel installations and fuel handling procedures; (2) fuel contract administration; (3) maintenance/repair of fuel equipment is required. Experience in UN peacekeeping or other field operations is desirable. 

Languages:  - English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written French and English are required.
