This is an Individual Contractor position (IC)

 

Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships:

 

These positions are located in Staff Counseling & Welfare Unit across MINUSTAH.  The incumbent reports to the Staff Welfare Assistant.

 

Responsibilities:

Within the terms of organization’s delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Chief Staff Counseling and Welfare Unit (SCWU) or the OIC, the Gym Instructor will undertake the following tasks:

Provide support to the Welfare Office in terms of Fitness and Body Building, clients’ assistance and general operations support matters including:

  • Physical Education
  • Manage a group fitness class
  • Advise members on the use of the exercise machine
  • Repair and maintenance and operation of the Gyms’ equipment in Port-au-Prince (at the Logbase and Delta camp facilities);
  • Provide periodic maintenance visits to the regions to provide maintenance, assemble and repair Gym’s equipment;
  • Provide guidance and information to clients regarding the use of equipment and its benefits;
  • Assist client in designing and managing physical training programs;
  • Assist in elaboration of proper regime for loss of weight;
  • Conduct aerobic & fitness classes;
  • Assist or advise senior staff on the use of the equipment with close monitoring;
  • Assist in organizing welfare events within the mission area such as sporting events, fair;
  • Responsible of the Welfare Equipment and Assets in use;
  • Presence in the gym to ensure safety of the equipment.
  • Dealing effectively with difficult clients and complex situations.
  • Exercise duties with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Respond to queries appropriately;
  •  Perform other related duties as required

 

Knowledge, skills and attributes

 

Knowledge

The Individual Contractor (Gym Instructor) will require having at least two (2) years of experience and a High School Diploma. The Consultant (Gym Instructor) must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

 

  • Body building
  • Fitness and health
  • An understanding of the UN cultural environment.

 

Skills

The Consultant (Gym Instructor) must demonstrate the following skills:

  • excellent interpersonal skills;
  • team building skills;
  • stress management skills;
  • Time management skills.

 

There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The Consultant (Gym Instructor) must also deal with a wide variety of clients on various issues.
