Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships:
This position is located in the Engineering Section of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). The incumbent will report directly to the Supervisor of Electrical Unit.
Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Electrical, HVAC/Refrigeration and Mechanical Unit (EMU), the HVAC Assistant will be responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining all equipment in UN premises and other associated buildings. Maintain all building codes, installation requirements and relevant legislation, including perform scheduled maintenance service on equipment and fixtures in various locations as per schedule, using standard codes of practices and safety standards. The HVAC Assistant will have overall responsibility, as designated and guided by the Head of the Electrical, HVAC/Refrigeration and Mechanical Unit (EMU), for the following:
Responsibilities:
- Assist HVAC technicians with the installation of HVAC equipment including refrigeration which also includes freezers;
- Perform fault finding and repair works to HVAC equipment, refrigeration (including freezers), industrial kitchen equipment, kitchen appliances, industrial and domestic gas equipment;
- Perform routine maintenance checks and procedures for HVAC equipment;
- Schedule periodical maintenance for all AC units;
- Prepare brief technical reports, routine documentation and test records;
- Implement all safety and environmental codes and practices relating to repair and testing of HVAC as well as refrigeration equipment and usage of refrigeration’s gases;
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Education: - High school diploma is required. First level university degree in Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) related is desirable.
Work Experience: - A minimum of two (2) years of progressive experience in commercial and industrial Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) installations is required. Knowledge in refrigeration equipment such as chest type freezers, walk-in freezers, Thermo-king and Daikin freezer containers would be an asset; some knowledge of IEE wiring regulations is desirable.
Languages: - English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the advertised post, fluency in English both oral and written is required; Knowledge of French is desirable.
