Organization Setting

This position is located within the Communication and Public Information Office in Port-au-Prince of the United   Mission for the Stabilization of Haiti. The incumbent of this post will be under the general supervision of the Chief PIO and the immediate supervision of the Chief of Multimedia.                      

 

Main Responsibilities 

Within delegated authority, the Website Assistant is responsible for the following duties:

-Provides general office support; responds to complex information requests and inquiries; processes, drafts and finalizes correspondence and other communications; sets up and maintains files/records, organizes meetings, monitors deadlines, etc.

- Coordinates administrative services, including preparing, monitoring and processing various requisitions, coordinating special assignments and related travel authorizations, etc.

-Provides specialized assistance to officers in the production and delivery of information communications products and services for website use.

-Manages, updates and further develops internal databases; updates web site, to include drafting and editing content; assists in design, development and maintenance of Internet applications; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases.

-Researches, compiles and presents basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services, including Outreach Division’s public websites

-Serves as photographic assistant by producing digital imaging, for inclusion in OD websites.

-Coordinates and oversees day-today activities performed in iSeek Drupal platform by Department/Offices to optimize system’s performance. Provides advance notice of, and information on, upcoming meetings, briefings and special events and to ascertain fulfillment of requirements; coordinates technical arrangements and organizes meetings via Webex.

- Participates in the planning and coordination of in the delivery of new/updated websites; liaises with relevant OD Sections; drafts and edits reports, production schedules, , and correspondence related to the planning and production of websites. Using relevant computer software, creates designs in appropriate format for promotional and other material, e.g. brochures, presentational materials, announcements, video and audio cassette covers and catalogues, etc.; ensures that photos, graphics, etc. are appropriate and conform to UN standards for print materials.

- Assists in the production and editing of website projects; tracks all production material; selects and catalogues sound and visual materials for inclusion in productions, and obtains requisite clearances and copyrights. Assures quality control of OD web sites by performing security testing, unit testing, multilingual testing, browser support testing, multiple device testing, color contrast testing, and UN accessibility tests.

-Identifies and prepares new material for inclusion in appropriate web pages by: researching various information sources for relevant material and cross-checking information with author offices as required; retrieving and downloading pertinent documentation and other information in requisite programming languages for Web format or inserting into database after determining appropriate categorization; preparing new pages, incorporating graphics as needed, using appropriate authoring tools and necessary programming languages; preparing and updating index of documents; posting documents on the UN web and/or development servers and ensuring the appropriate directory location; checking and testing for multiple browser support, etc.

-Provides guidance/training to junior staff.

-Performs other duties as assigned.

            EDUCATION

High school diploma. Technical training in Web, Graphic design or other relevant IT training and certificates would be an asset.

 

            WORK EXPERIENCE

At least five (5) years of experience in public communication or related area, including experience working in web content management, development, or design is required. Experience with the Drupal web content management system and working within the United Nations system or similar international organization is desirable. Proven computer skills proficiency, with use of text, audio, photo and video editing software (Adobe: Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Audition; Final Cut and Soundtrack Pro), good knowledge and operating skills of audio, photo and video equipment; a familiarity with multimedia techniques including but not limited to: a) creating and editing text products; b) video shooting and editing; c) photography shooting and editing; d) audio capture and editing; e) graphic design skills; f) webpage layout; g) social media (facebook, twitter, flickr, Instagram) management.

 

LANGUAGE

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and spoken French and English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
