Organization Setting and Reporting Line

Under the general direction of the Chief Transport Officer and the direct supervision of the OIC Under the general direction of the Chief Transport Officer and the direct supervision of the immediate supervisor, the Transport Assistant is expected to perform the following administrative duties:

Responsibilities

With delegated authority, the Transport Assistant will carry out the following duties: Fleet Vehicle Inventory Unit duties:

Assist in monitoring the distribution of non-expendable transport assets; Assist in ensuring that the Bi-annual physical inventory of non-expendable transport assets is conducted accordance with the established procedures and deadlines; Assist in ensuring that records are maintained for non-expandable transport assets, including records in fleet management databases; Assist in preparing Business Objects Reports; Assist in coordinating the Mission Vehicle Establishment Committee (VEC) meetings; Assist in the implementation of the Vehicle Replacement Policy; Provide assistance in ensuring that vehicle write-off cases are processed in accordance with the established procedures and deadlines; Assist in providing technical expertise on Contingent Own Equipment (COE) and safety inspections.; Assist in the provision of inputs for statistical report on transport fleet utilization and composition.; Assists in ensuring the constant availability of vehicles for temporary assignment in support of one-off and emergency tasks as directed by the Chief Transport Officer.; Assist in performing other related duties as required.

Education: High school diploma is required. Technical or vocational certificate in mechanical engineering, transportation, logistics or other related fields is desirable. A valid driver’s license is required.

Work Experience: A minimum of four (4) years of relevant and/or progressively responsible experience in multimodal transportation or a related area is required.

Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the Position advertised, fluency in oral and written English and French is required.
