Under the general direction of the Chief Transport Officer and the direct supervision of the immediate supervisor, the Transport Assistant is expected to perform some or all of the following administrative duties:

Responsibilities:

With delegated authority, the Transport Stores Assistant will carry out the following duties under Stores and Inventory Unit: Assist in handling, codification and database update for expendable transport assets; Assist in ensuring that the Bi-annual physical inventory of expendable transport assets is conducted accordance with the established procedures and deadlines; Assist in ensuring that all related records are maintained for expandable transport assets, including all entries for Galileo database; Assist in preparing Business Objects Reports; Assist in raising of shopping carts, low value acquisitions and service entry sheets for both goods and services. Provide assistance in ensuring write-off cases are processed in accordance with the established procedures and deadlines; Assist in collating  and preparing draft report for evaluation of vendor’s bids; Assist in the provision of unit’s input for statistical report on weekly  and monthly basis; Assists in ensuring all records/cases related to acquisition of goods/services and related Stores Unit documents are properly maintained and reports monitoring are regularly updated; Assist in performing other related duties as required.

Education: High school diploma is required. Technical or vocational certificate in administration, transportation, logistics or other related fields is desirable. A valid driver’s license is required.

Work Experience: A minimum of four (4) years progressively responsible relevant experience in multimodal transportation or a related area is required. Knowledge of Galileo database, Business Object and UMOJA (or SAP Database system) is an advantage.

 

Languages:  English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.  For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required, French is desirable.
