Organization Setting and Reporting Line

Under the general direction of the Chief Transport Officer and the direct supervision of the OIC light workshop, the technician shall be responsible for the technical and operational effectiveness of UN owned light and heavy vehicles at the Transport base workshop in Port Au Prince. The incumbent shall perform the following functions:

Responsibilities:    

Performs vehicle electrician work with an emphasis on automotive air condition cooling systems.

Diagnoses and repairs electrical and electronic systems and circuits.

Plans his job according to wire diagrams layouts, blueprints or work orders.

Performs installation work, exchange of parts, dismantle and re-built AC cooling system and general automotive work.

Conduct tests and analyses functions of system components to locate cause of malfunctions.

Using electronic testing equipment, vacuum and pressure tester, and electric battery tester as well as specialized test equipment and hand tools.

Performs related task for installation work such as cutting, grinding and drilling;  

Searches for leaks in air condition system, vacuum and fills compressor with refrigerant, measures pressure, determines efficiency and connects hoses and pipes to compressor, evaporator and cool air outlets.

Recovers, recycles and refill gas to A/C system with special equipment.

Ensuring safety procedures and environmental friendly working habits are followed when repairing and fitting replacements spare parts.

May perform other related technician duties, as required, within the Transport workshop.

Education: - High school diploma is required.  The appropriate technical and vocational qualifications in vehicle maintenance is highly desirable.

Work Experience: - A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in automotive electric/electronic and/or automotive air condition repairs required. Any vehicle mechanic certificate considered an advantage. Valid national driving license is required.  Good working knowledge in utilizing computer software applications (Outlook, MS Word, Excel, FMS in Galileo, etc.)

Languages: - English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.  For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written French is required. Good communication and working knowledge in English is an advantage.
