Organization Setting and Reporting Line

This position is located in the Engineering Section of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). The incumbent will report directly to the Head of Water and Sanitation Unit.

Responsibilities:    

  • Assist in the management of water and sanitation unit in efficient manner by
    preparing draft requisition for spare parts, consumable, e.g. pump, water bladder, spare parts for Module I and module II water treatment plants and for modules I, II and III of wastewater treatment plants.
  • Obtain daily, weekly and monthly reports from WWTP Operators and analyze requirements in terms of spare parts, chemicals and maintenance requirements.
  • Advise WWTP Operators on the minor repairs and replacements that they should carry out on site.
  • Carry out major maintenance of WWTPs including but not limited to repairs of membranes; mechanical and chemical cleaning of membranes; replacement of membranes, blowers, regeneration of activated sludge blankets/layers; removal of sludge from all modules; replacement of WWTP pumps, sensors and modules.
  • Install or decommission wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) including the following:
  • Installation of Module I (septic module), Module II (Equalization and Lifting Station) and Module III (wastewater treatment);
  • Decommission WWTPs at closing camps and reinstall them at other recommended sites.
  • Repair leakages in the piping and tanks.
  • Check the Panel Board system and electrical connections and replace damaged components together with Electrical and Mechanical Unit.
  • Perform site wastewater quality tests advised by WatSan Unit.
  • Prepare inventory list of required items/ spare parts as well as tools and equipment in the asset control database after receipt.
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly report and submit to Unit supervisor for review.
  • Prepare the attendance sheet for National and Individual Contractor staff.
  • Task and keep records of UNOE sewage truck and water truck daily trips and monitoring.
  • Compile data for the list of works requests, contract extensions and attendance sheet for IC workers, request for replacement of IC when needed, and submit attendance leave report.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor or Chief Engineer.

Education: - High school diploma is required. In addition certificate training in operation and installation maintenance, operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants is advantage.

Work Experience: - A minimum of five (5) years experience in operation and/or maintenance of water or wastewater treatment/purification plants is required.

Languages: - English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.  For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Good communication and working knowledge in French is an advantage.
