Port-au-Prince, July 15, 2013 - The new Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti, Ms. Sandra Honoré, from Trinidad and Tobago, arrived in Port-au-Prince on Monday July 15 2013 and immediately assumed her duties as Head of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).

Port-au-Prince, le 15 juillet 2013 - La nouvelle Représentante spéciale du Secrétaire général des Nations Unies en Haïti, Mme. Sandra Honoré, de Trinité-et-Tobago, est arrivée à Port-au-Prince ce lundi 15 juillet 2013 et a immédiatement pris ses fonctions à la tête de la Mission des Nations Unies pour la Stabilisation en Haïti (MINUSTAH).

"I am delighted to be in Haiti, a country of great historical importance to the whole of the Caribbean and Latin America”, Ms. Honoré said upon arrival. “My mission is to support and work closely with President Martelly and the Government of Haiti, with all Haitians involved in an inclusive political dialogue, as well as with the democratic and rule of law institutions.

I will spare no effort to ensure that the work with Haiti and its international partners in the political, security and development fields benefits all Haitians.

MINUSTAH has also reached a crossroads in Haiti. With the agreement of the Haitian Government and the Security Council of the United Nations, we launched our Consolidation Plan, which provides a significant reduction of our presence and of our uniformed and civilian personnel in the coming years. I am committed to supporting Haiti to strengthen the security, the rule of law, good governance and an inclusive political dialogue."

The appointment of Ms. Sandra Honoré was announced on 31 May 2013 by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon.

A son arrivée Mme. Honoré a déclaré : « Je suis ravie d'être en Haïti, un pays d'une grande importance historique pour l'ensemble des Caraïbes et de l'Amérique latine. Ma mission est de travailler en appui et en étroite collaboration avec le Président Martelly et le gouvernement d’Haïti, avec tous les Haïtiens engagés dans le dialogue politique inclusif, ainsi qu’avec les institutions démocratiques et de l’état de droit.

Je ne ménagerai aucun effort pour assurer que le travail avec Haïti et ses partenaires internationaux dans les domaines politique, de la sécurité et du développement bénéficie à tous les Haïtiens.

La MINUSTAH est également à un tournant important en Haïti. Avec l'accord du gouvernement haïtien et du Conseil de sécurité des Nations Unies, nous avons lancé notre Plan de Consolidation, qui prévoit une réduction significative de notre présence et de nos effectifs en uniforme et civils dans les prochaines années. Je m'engage à accompagner Haïti afin de renforcer la sécurité, l’état de droit, la bonne gouvernance et le dialogue politique inclusif ».

La nomination de Mme. Sandra Honoré a été annoncée le 31 mai 2013 par le Secrétaire général de l’ONU, Mr. Ban Ki-moon.
