The 63,000 inhabitants of Plaisance - situated 33km from Cap-Haïtien (in the North) - finally have their own Town Hall, a first since the town was founded by Royal Decree back in 1749

Julio Antoine sells sugar cane in front of the Town Hall of Plaisance. The new building is part of his daily life, so he is understandably proud; "I was born and raised here. Until now, the town officials never had a fixed locale. Now they have what they need," he says.

 

According to Josué Louis, who also lives in Plaisance, the town officials have become more productive since they moved into the new building in March 2013: "The set-up is really attractive and conducive to serving citizens," says Louis.

The Deputy Mayor of Plaisance, Lucien Joseph, agrees: "Ever since the town's founding, the administration has been housed in rented structures, but now we have a 'home' - and we can even accommodate others!" he says, referring to the Peace Court housed temporarily in the complex.

Construction of the Town Hall of Plaisance was funded with US $100,000 from MINUSTAH's Quick-Impact Projects (QIPs) scheme.

Depuis près d’un an, les 63 000 habitants de Plaisance, à 33 km du Cap-Haitien (Nord) ont enfin une mairie à eux, une première depuis que la commune existe.

Julio Antoine vend de la canne à sucre en face de la mairie. Le bâtiment flambant neuf est son cadre de vie quotidien, alors il en est fier. « Je suis né et grandi ici. La mairie n’a jamais eu un local fixe. Maintenant, elle détient son propre local », résume-t-il, tout sourire.

Pour Josué Louis, 35 ans, les fonctionnaires sont plus productifs depuis qu’ils ont emménagé là en mars 2013 : « Le cadre est vraiment attrayant pour servir la clientèle », dit-il.

Le maire adjoint, Lucien Joseph, n’est pas en reste. « La mairie a été logée depuis sa fondation dans des maisons de location, mais maintenant, nous sommes chez nous et nous pouvons loger les autres, » explique-t-il, faisant référence au tribunal de paix, logé provisoirement dans le bâtiment.

Depuis que cette localité a été élevée au rang de commune par ordonnance royale en 1749, c’est la première fois que l’administration communale dispose de son propre local.

Les travaux de construction dudit bâtiment ont  été financés  à hauteur de 100 000 dollars US par la MINUSTAH dans le cadre des Projets à effet rapide (QIP).
