Argentine UNPols receive United Nations Peacekeeping medal
On Wednesday, March 21, 2012, the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal was awarded to 18 United Nations Police Officers (UNPol) members of the Argentine Contingent in a ceremony held at the Argentine Embassy in Petionville, Haiti. Representing the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) Police component was UNPol Chief of Staff Iuliana Boanca. Representing the embassy of Argentina was Minister Juan Nuñez.

After the national anthems of Haiti and Argentina were played, tribute was paid by Contingent Commander Alejandro Fernandez and Minister Nunez offering in remarks concerning the efforts of Argentine UNPols in Haiti. Contingent Commander Fernandez described the international contributions of Argentine personnel in missions dating to 1992 when the first Argentine mission served in the country of Angola. One member of the Argentine Contingent, Alicia Muga is the first female officer representing the Argentine Gendarmerie in the MINUSTAH mission.
After the remarks, the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal was awarded to the UNPols by Minister Nuñez, Chief of Staff Boanca, Contingent Commander Fernandez, UNPol Chief of Regional Operations Section Hector Olivera Cardozo and UNPol Chief of Personnel Ihab Serageldine. Afterwards, a brief reception was held within the embassy to celebrate the event.
