Port-au-Prince, le 02 juillet 2014 – Du 28 au 30 juin 2014, la Mission des Nations Unies pour la Stabilisation en Haïti (MINUSTAH) a conduit, de concert avec la Police Nationale d’Haïti (PNH), une opération de sécurité conjointe dans la zone de Bellecourt, à Cité Soleil.

Cette opération des composantes militaire et policière (UNPol) de la MINUSTAH en appui à la PNH, visait à dissuader les activités des gangs, à appréhender les criminels recherchés et à assister le Gouvernement d’Haïti dans le renforcement de l’Etat de droit à Bellecourt, une communauté vulnérable de la capitale.

Pendant l’opération, la PNH a arrêté 34 personnes; dont 18 personnes suspectées ou recherchées d’être membres actifs de gangs dans la zone.

En soutien à la PNH et UNPol, des unités de la composante militaire ont établi un cordon de sécurité autour de Bellecourt le 28 juin, permettant à la PNH de conduire des perquisitions et d’exécuter des mandats à des endroits précis.

Ces opérations initiales ont été suivies pendant 48 heures de patrouilles conjointes coordonnées entre les composantes militaire et policière de la MINUSTAH et la PNH à Bellecourt.

Le 30 juin, l’opération a pris fin avec une journée d’activités civilo-militaires (CIMIC) à Bellecourt. Plus de 1 300 habitants ont ainsi eu accès à des services dispensés par les Casques bleus, dont des soins médicaux, des distributions d’eau et de kits dentaires, des séances de coiffure et des animations pour les enfants.

Des 382 Casques bleus participant à l’opération, 273 étaient issus de la composante militaire et 109 de la Police des Nations Unies.

Les éléments impliqués dans les phases initiales de l’opération comprenaient pour la composante UNPOL différentes unités et les FPU Jordanienne et Indienne, et pour la composante militaire le Bataillon brésilien (BRABAT), la Compagnie bolivienne (BOLCOY), la Compagnie des sapeurs brésiliens (BRAENGCOY), l’Unité d’aviation argentine (ARGAVN), l’Unité d’aviation chilienne (CHIAVN) et l’Hôpital argentin (ARGHOSP). En outre, la Compagnie de sapeurs du Paraguay (PARENGCOY), et les Compagnies péruvienne (PERCOY) et philippine (PHILCOY) ont participé aux activités CIMIC du 30 juin.

Ce type d’opérations conjointes vise non seulement à assurer un environnement sûr et stable, mais également à contribuer d’appuyer les institutions nationales haïtiennes dans l’exercice de leurs prérogatives.

Information note : MINUSTAH conducted with the Haitian National Police a joint security operation in the Bellecourt

Port-au-Prince, 2^nd July 2014 – From June 28 to 30, 2014, the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) conducted with the Haitian National Police (HNP) a joint security operation in the Bellecourt area of Cité Soleil.

The operation with peacekeepers from the military and police components of MINUSTAH in support to HNP, was carried out in order to deter gang activity, apprehend sought criminals and assist the Government of Haiti in reinforcing rule of law in Bellecourt, a vulnerable community in the capital.

During the operation, the HNP arrested 34 persons suspected of committing crimes; of those suspects, 18 were confirmed active gang members in the area.

In support of HNP and UNPOL, units from the military component carried out a cordon of the Bellecourt area on June 28, enabling the HNP to make searches and execute court orders at specific points.

These initial cordon operations were followed by 48 hours of coordinated joint patrols by the military component, HNP and UNPOL in Bellecourt.

On June 30, the operation concluded with a civil-military coordination (CIMIC) event at Bellecourt. The military component provided services to more than 1,300 local residents, including distribution of water, medical treatment, haircuts, dental kits and entertainment for children.

Of the 382 UN peacekeepers who participated in the mission, 273 came from the military component, with the other 109 from UNPOL.

MINUSTAH peacekeepers involved in the initial phases of the operation included for the UNPOL different units as well as Jordanian and Indian FPUs, and for the military component the Brazilian Battalion (BRABAT), Bolivian Company (BOLCOY), Brazilian Engineer Company (BRAENGCOY), Argentinean Aviation Unit (ARGAVN), Chilean Aviation Unit (CHIAVN) and Argentine Hospital (ARGHOSP). In addition, the Paraguayan Engineer Company (PARENGCOY), Peruvian Company (PERCOY) and Philippine Company (PHILCOY) participated in the CIMIC activity on June 30.

This type of joint operations are intended not only to ensure a secure and stable environment, but also to contribute to support the Haitian national institutions in their prerogatives.
